You wonder why I can’t put stuff up here more often, it’s conversations like this that I have every day that really cuts into my productivity.
You wonder why I can’t put stuff up here more often, it’s conversations like this that I have every day that really cuts into my productivity.
Below is a typical conversation between myself and Jason "Weege" Weigandt who has been on my podcast show a bunch and is a super-fan. We just come up with this stuff and it sucks the time away. My Italian guy wants his US Open story but I’m too busy talking about this:
Steve(1:04:58 PM):do u think that had RJ not hurt his wrist he would’ve still been there in 90, 91?
Steve(1:05:05 PM):because he was unstoppable in 89
Steve (1:05:31 PM):5 sx wins in a row, lost the 6th when he fell on the second last lap (Atlanta–I was there) and then broke his wrist
Steve(1:05:53 PM):like would Bayle have him covered in 91?
Weege(1:06:04 PM):yeah you have to wonder if any of those guys would have gotten any confidence going
Weege(1:06:37 PM):he was so damned head strong, I could see it being like Mcgrath–just mowing through the windham/lusks/huffmans
Weege (1:06:54 PM):bayle was pretty damned good though
Steve(1:06:54 PM):right…like "here’s a challenger….oops..guess not"
Weege (1:07:25 PM):i remember san diego SX in 89, bradshaw was up there, RJ passed him and put a huge brake check on him
Steve(1:07:27 PM):little know fact tho..JMB never won a race in the 250 mx series….got real lucky when he was only top guy to finish HT 91
Weege (1:07:30 PM):like "Eff you kid"
Weege (1:07:43 PM):bradshaw and johnson were supposed to battle!
Weege (1:07:47 PM):it never really happened
Steve(1:07:57 PM):well Damon was a 125 guy in 89….
jygant (1:08:09 PM):yeah he rode 250 SX out west
Steve (1:08:11 PM):it would have been 90, 91 for the beast
Weege (1:08:14 PM):got third in SD 89
Steve (1:08:21 PM):he wasn’t supposed to challenge quite yet
Weege (1:08:37 PM):right and I think RJ was putting him in his place
Weege (1:08:41 PM):"not so fast"
Steve (1:08:43 PM):right
Weege(1:08:59 PM):those two personalities, it would have been epic
Steve(1:09:00 PM):winning in Japan is one thing bitch..this is mother effing Anaheim
Weege(1:09:13 PM):agggggzacty, you know that burned RJ’s ass
Steve(1:09:52 PM):I wonder if the one hander meant just a little more that night?
Weege (1:10:38 PM):all I can say is….you think either of those guys give a shit as much as we do?
Weege(1:10:48 PM):I’m getting fired up just thinking about this
Steve(1:10:57 PM):ha, no
Steve (1:11:33 PM):RJ came up with the cyborg gear in ’90 because he deep down wished he had a cyborg wrist
Weege (1:11:44 PM):oh wow never realized
Steve (1:11:46 PM):yep
Weege(1:11:56 PM):I didn’t ask him about holeshotting millville and getting on the brakes
Weege(1:11:58 PM):it would hurt too much
Steve (1:12:09 PM):you could but I bet he didn’t remember it…hurt me bad
Weege(1:12:13 PM):a young fan named Steve wept that day
Steve(1:12:26 PM):right and that’s my "Ivan Tedesco at Southwick" theory
Steve(1:12:47 PM):DONT COME BACK UNLESS UR READY
Weege (1:12:53 PM):oh I’ve heard it many times
Weege (1:12:54 PM):LOL
Steve(1:13:02 PM):cause some kid, somewhere will have driven eight hrs to see u
Steve (1:13:07 PM):and been crushed
Steve(1:25:52 PM):mother f-ing chicken ALMOST won the 250 sx title in 90…what would have happened to him and his life if he won that title?
Weege (1:49:30 PM):holy shit chicken….how amazing does that sound now
Weege (1:49:42 PM):leading the points most of the year in his ROOKIE season
Steve (1:49:48 PM):yeah he lost the points lead at the second last round..Led it like the whole way
Steve(1:49:55 PM):won 1 race
Steve (1:49:56 PM):vegas
