Jean-Michael Bayle is a legend in the sport of supercross and was hanging out in the pits at Bercy. It seemed that he couldn’t go more than ten feet without someone wanting to talk to him or get a photo with the 3-time national champion. Here’s a short little interview I managed to do before he was interupted again.

Me: So JMB, you do the color commentary for the Bercy race now right?
JMB: A little bit, yes.
I guess you always love it here in Bercy right?
Yeah for sure, this is where it all starts for us French guys. Before there was Bercy, nobody knew anything in France about supercross. For us it’s a big race and it’s also the place where us French riders show that we can fight against the American riders.
What are you up to nowadays, still rally car racing?
Yeah, a little bit of rally for fun. Just to have some racing in my life, I do it here and there. I enjoy the racing part of it but really I just do what I want to do to have a good life.
Thanks again for doing that podcast with me, did you get much response from it?
Yeah, it was great I received some emails and calls about it from people and I liked it. It was great to speak with Jeff Stanton on the show again and it was so fun. During the time when we were racing, we were both 100% into our racing and of course, we never talked at all. It was good to talk to him and tell the stories again.
When you were the man here in Bercy, you probably had a ton of pressure on you to win. What was that like?
Yeah, it was ok. When you are racing, you’re not thinking about it and the pressure was not so bad really. It’s good to have pressure on you sometimes.
Do you have a favorite Bercy Supercross?
Well, the last one was great really. It was my very last race and I had a great race with Jeff (Stanton). I ended up winning the very last night and that was a great way to go out for sure.
