This is from 1985 and I won the Canadian Amateur Championships in the 250 and 500 Senior classes but that’s not an old guy class! In ’85 I went to Lethbridge Alberta for the nationals. I had won the 125 and 250 titles in Quebec and was doing pretty good, I was beating some of the local pros. So we ended up buying a 500 a few weeks before the Canadian nationals to try and get the three-peat but it didn’t happen. I was pretty big for a 125, always was. I think that Steve Friesen won a moto in the 125’s and I’m not sure who won the overall. Rick Hammer-Jackson was there also, he’s a funny guy! In my other classes, it was Lino Zecca that was my competition that year. I wasn’t thinking that I can make a living at racing then, I was 15 years old. I turned pro right after this race and the first race I was an expert I won a moto so I knew that I could win the pro classes and maybe do ok. |
