In the past five years, there have been 141 total AMA Supercross and Motocross events held.
In this time span, few riders have scored points in the majority of races. So, how many riders recorded a points finish and who has the most? Let’s dive in:
(Just highlighting the 450 class in this and not including SMX rounds)
450 Supercross
In the 85 Supercross races from 2019 through 2023, there have been 93 total riders who have scored points in a race:
I’m using “Points Finishes” instead of starts for Supercross to be consistent with Motocross. I’ll also be combining the data from the two series later in this post. There have been three riders to not score points in a Supercross Main Event in last 5 years due to penalty:
- Martin Davalos at Houston 2 2021
- Justin Bogle at San Diego 2022
- Ryan Breece at Minneapolis 2022
A few thoughts:
- Only 15 riders have scored points in more than 50% of the SX races in the last 5 years
- Just 8 riders have scored points in more than 75%!
- Tomac and Webb being the first and second isn’t really any surprise, however, it is surprising to see Dean Wilson with the fifth most points finishes given his injury history in the last 5 years
- If anything, this data table goes to show how truly hard it is to stay healthy in this sport and then to be fast enough to qualify for the main events in Supercross!

By Manufacturer:
- Justin Barcia and Justin Starling make up 78 of the 83 GasGas points finishes.
Breaking down Manufacturer points finishes by year 2019-2023:
- Quite the jump for Kawasaki from 2022 to 2023!
450 Motocross
Looking at Outdoors, in 56 total races in the past 5 years, there have been 152 riders to have scored points.
A similar trend emerges, just 12 riders have finished in the points in over 50% of races in the past 5 years:
A few notes:
- How about Freddie Noren being tied with Tomac for the most!?
- Just 3 riders have scored points in 75% of the races!
- It feels like Cooper Webb has barely raced Outdoors at all the last few years, but here he is still with the 13th most Points Finishes in Motocross in the last 5 years

Breaking down Manufacturer points finishes by year 2019-2023:
- For the 2020 season every Manufacturer dropped off compared to 2019 for points finishes due to having 9 round season
- Quite a jump for Yamaha over the years!
450 Supercross & Motocross Combined
In the 141 total Supercross & Motocross races, there have been 188 different riders to score points:
- Not much change in the top names when combining the two series as its the same factory riders
- Its cool to see Chiz as the top non-factory rider
- Shoutout to Benny Bloss! 14th most points finishes in the last 5 years!
