I have been in Texas all week but managed to get some scoop as well as some insight on Saturday’s night race in Birmingham. Mother Nature hates Supercross this year and it’s making for some weird results as well as crashes. Although this isn’t the biggest Daytime article, we got a few notes in here. Let’s dissect, shall we?
Monster Girl: I mean we had to start it with this right? How many of you yelled at the TV, “WTF are you doing”? “WTF is wrong with our sport”? “Why didn’t she see or hear Jett/Cooper coming and move ten feet over to safety”? These are ALL valid questions and I wishI had answers but Dirt Shark’s Instagram had the lovely lady on his feed stating that she has been walking back and forth from her spot to the tower and it was going well all night, until it wasn’t. I still don’t understand but I will take it, I guess. I am just glad she didn’t get hurt and we aren’t talking about a Monster Lady with a broken leg or back. It would have been so awesome to have Webb mic’d up for that lap however. It would have been GOLD! Stay safe out there ladies, keep your head on a swivel. It’s what you have to do when you find yourself in a vicious cockfight.
Jett/Cooper: These dudes were never more than a few seconds apart. Webb is getting closer to Jett’s speed but I also think Cooper is a little better when the track is soft than when it’s hard pack. I feel like Cooper Webb and Jett Lawrence will fight it out for the title. These two seem to be the most hard headed and have figured out how to be on the podium more consistently than the others. Indy should be a good race as it will be an indicator of what is to come for the rest of the series I believe. Enclosed stadium and good dirt will make for a great race! Stand by.
Eli Tomac: Somewhere Denny Stephenson is yelling “Elito” somewhere! This is old Tomac where he is great and then mediocre. Not like Eli to get passed near the end of a main event. The seventh place was indicative of how fast he was going early but late it fell apart. I have to think it’s arm pump or something because he is back on ALL of his normal/last year parts. Including muffler, tires, suspension, etc. Indy.. Yeah, Indy…
Ken Roczen: Kenny is not going anywhere. Decent starts and a track that is techy will put him on the podium ALL day. The sprint speed early in the mains dosn’t seem to be there like it once was, but the end of motos is much better! WOW! I refuse to eat heart or bone marrow though. I’m out. Guess I will suck on a dirt bike forever.
Colt Nichols: Shout out to Colt for showing up and riding pretty damn good! He was one of the last ones to get lapped and I am saying that in a POSITIVE way. Coming off an injury and riding a new bike as well as a track like Birmingham is NOT easy. Also, kudos to Beta for continuing to work on the bike and help these riders out. Sure, John Short is way better on the Kawasaki but I think the Beta will come around with more time.
Tom Vialle: Uh oh! The Frenchman is coming! Two wins in a row and he’s getting good stats. Musquin has been helping Vialle and it’s showing. No whoops on Saturday night but he was solid all night and never seems to ride over his limit. I also hear he is not one to change a lot of things on his bike. He sticks with what he knows and works on himself. I like this.
Haiden Deegan: It’s tough man. I want to like this kid sooooo bad and I guess he doesn’t need anything from me, but when you do certain things on/off the bike it’s tough to really enjoy all that is Danger Boy. An unreal talent and a spicy hot head that sometimes makes others puzzled. Why you mad at Hammaker bro? You came from the outside and cut over on his front wheel and it got sucked up into yours. Not that hard to figure out! Then when you do see tape, do you walk over and apologize for freaking out? Did he? Maybe he did? If he did then that is commendable and respectful. But… I think that is the kind of stuff we want to see. Sure, riders freak out in the moment, I get that. But how do you recover when your heart rate drops? Do you have compassion or remorse for certain actions? If you don’t then cool, don’t stress on the haters, but at some point you’ll need those fans or industry people that you’re losing over right now. Again, I understand he’s not for everyone and he’s a rad rider to watch and have in our sport, but there is an hourglass for these actions is all I am saying. The sand is falling through right now and will eventually run out no matter how good you are.
Pierce Brown: Can we call him “Pico”? Pico Brown would be awesome! Pierce needs better starts and he is able to win. I just never see him get a holeshot! Any one know that last time he holeshot a main? Has he? Maybe I don’t know, but seriously has he? It’s not the bike as it should have plenty of juice because Vialle seems to make it around the first corner decently. Pico’s style is also underrated. He has this smooth yet balls out variety that is rare. Let’s hope Wil can give him some of his starting secrets! Not like he hasn’t already but you get my point!
