Triple Crown time! The Indy track ad some teeth to it and brought the mistakes out by the riders. There’s nothing new up in the 450 class, but there are some points to this class that can be talked about but this 250 East class is something else! Let’s chat about the night that was.
Ken Roczen: I watched an interview with Ken’s wife and she was quoted saying that this Ken Roczen is the best Ken she’s ever seen and I would have to agree. If this Ken was racing 5-6 years ago, this Ken wins A LOT and most likely a Supercross title. Yes, I know there was others on top of their games but this Kenny is so technically good as well as mentally sound. Not a lot bothers him like the old days and to see him fight Jett for the win is something else! It’s going to be tough to get second in the points with Cooper up there but if Kenny can keep getting these starts and riding the way he is, this is a real possibility. I know these guys don’t care a bout second place in the championship but let’s be real, Jett is going to get this done.
Chase Sexton: Chase got some new bumpsticks and doesn’t like to talk about it. However, there is a noticeable change in his aggressiveness on the track. Some people may wonder why can’t WP figure out a setting for Chase? There is a specific feel that KYB has that cant be matched by other suspension companies and riding is a “feeling” and if that feeling isn’t there on the bike then you try something that gives you that feeling. Some of you may say “these guys are pre-madonnas and they should just ride faster”. That is not the case. These riders are the tip of the sphere and in order to be able to do the things they do on the bike they need to feel comfortable at all times. Not going to happen, I know, but it is what it is. The KYB suspension allows the KTM to feel like it has a wider window of forgiveness on the track so when the track changes, the KYB suspension should not feel as different as a WP setting.
Jason Anderson: Anderson is a menace to other riders. Not a hazardous menace but a menace like a pain in the ass to pass. Out of all the riders out there, this dude doesn’t care who you are and he makes it tough on you to pass. I like it! A fourth place is far better than he has been in a while and I like that hopefully we are seeing the Jason Anderson of the early rounds.
Cade Clason: Poor Cade. He has been in a lot of situations this year and this altercation with Webb wasn’t his fault but man did that screw up Webb’s overall. The bright side is that Cade is fast enough to get into the top eighteen which is really good at this stage of 450 racing. It also looks like the new 2024 KX450 fits him better than previous years as he looks more comfortable on the bike. Most of the time.
Cameron Mcadoo: The new nicest guy in motocross is Cameron. He has a little bit of that Alessi podium speech going on but it is nice to see a rider give a genuine podium speech. Cameron rode his race in each main and kept it on two wheels which seemed to be key to get the overall in Indy. Now with the red plate, let’s see how Cam holds it together for the remainder of the series. The big test is going to be the first East/West race coming up which really could screw up these east coast points. However, I think this new mature Cameron will hold it together and give Mitch an east coast title. Cool to see where this kid came from and to see what he’s doing now in the professional ranks.
Coty Schock: A man that is determined is a man that can accomplish many things. This is a quote that I like to live by and it seems Mr. Schock has adopted this lifestyle as well. A broken collarbone last week to racing with a plated collarbone this week is something else. Now, to get a fifth place on top of that is remarkable. If I am the guy behind Schock in the results at Indy, I am pissed. To get beat by a guy who just came out of surgery five days ago would make me rethink WTF I am doing. Congrats Coty on turning a page in your racing career as well as speed!
Max Anstie: Remember when there was all this preseason hype around Max. To be fair, it wasn’t Max at all that started it but his peers that would see him practicing at the track. That “hype” just hasn’t lived up to its hype so to speak. Yes, he did have the red plate, yes he did have fastest time in qualifying but I would have expected more podiums and better starts this year and it just hasn’t happened. The team works as hard as any other, but some bad luck and bad starts have forced Max off the podium more than we all wold have expected.
Levi Kilbarger: WHAT? Since Laninovich did this return to Supercross thing, I am seeing all of these old dudes come out of the woodwork and return to professional racing (albeit for fun). Not only did his daughter call him out to go racing, he chose a triple crown and made into the main! This is impressive. I honestly think this is more impressive than Billy making a main. Levi maybe not as old as Billy but when you haven’t raced SX in a while, it’s tough to get back out there and lay one down, but Levi seems to still have that quality about him. More vet riders crushing young racers souls is welcomed over here! Well played, Levi. Well played. SORRY! No file photo was found for Levi from Indy! LAME!
