We are halfway through the 2020s decade in Pro Motocross after the 2024 season completed at Ironman. This decade of Pro Motocross began with the covid shortened 2020 season which had just 9 rounds. 2021 and 2022 were back to the normal 12 rounds series. And the last two years have been 11 rounds with the SMX expansion.
These 55 total rounds over the last five years have flown by so I figured it would be good to review the stats for both classes. I’ll show stats on Starts, Wins, Average Finishes, Laps Led and more for both Overalls and Motos.

14 | Jeremy Hand | 28 |

No rider from 2020-2024 has started all 55 rounds of Pro Motocross. Sexton leads the way here but it is cool to see both a mix of factory riders with privateers.

Sexton with a huge lead on points, however, he has more starts than anyone in the class in the last 5 years. The Points per Start shows a bit of different picture:
Points per Overall Start (min. 10 starts)
Rank | Rider | Points per Start |
1 | Jett Lawrence | 47.50 |
2 | Hunter Lawrence | 42.00 |
3 | Chase Sexton | 40.26 |

No surprise to see Jett Lawrence way ahead here. Cool to see Dungey on the list after his comeback 2022 season.
Average Overall Finish (min. 10 starts)
Rank | Rider | Average Overall Finish |
1 | Jett Lawrence | 1.69 |
2 | Hunter Lawrence | 2.64 |

13 | Adam Cianciarulo | 6.62 |
14 | Justin Barcia | 7.00 |
15 | Aaron Plessinger | 7.18 |
Jett Lawrence’s 1.69 average finish so far in his career is currently better than Ricky Carmichael’s career average. Obviously Carmichael has way more career starts but it is still incredibly impressive from Jett.

Dylan Ferrandis was 12 for 12 in podiums in his championship 2021 season. Since then, he recorded 6 podiums in 2023, but zero in 2024 (he was injured all of the 2022 Outdoors season). Christian Craig recorded his one podium at Fox Raceway 1 at the opening round of the 2022 season.

Jett Lawrence led 329 Laps just in 2023 alone! Sexton led more laps in 2022 (137) than in his championship season of 2024 (101). And wildly in 2023, he didn’t lead a single lap…I think we will look back at that stat in several years and be shocked by it. Honestly, its pretty shocking now!

When you look at the relative laps led percentage we see a different picture, Jett is just insane here.

Alright onto the 250 Class.

I was surprised to see Hunter Lawrence in 6th here, figured he would be higher. However, his 2020 was very rough – his average finish was 16.63 in the 8 rounds he raced.
