Which riders have the highest average points per season throughout their Supercross career?
To answer this question, I will be looking at points percentage per season due to differences in points structure and differing amounts of rounds per year throughout Supercross history. This will allow relative comparison as it wouldn’t be very helpful comparing a 17 round season vs the early SX seasons with just several rounds.
I’ll compare both the 450 and 250 Classes, All-Time rankings and active rider rankings, etc.
I am not including 2025 as its still in progress. But we still are covering 1974-2024, plenty of seasons.
450SX All-Time Average Points Per Season 1974-2024 (Min. 3 Seasons Raced)
This includes any season a rider made a main event, so things like Ryan Dungey racing in 2008 in the 450 class is included, Roczen in 2011, etc. I will adjust for these seasons later on in this article.
Rank | Rider | Seasons | Points % Average |
1 | Ryan Villopoto | 6 | 74.47% |
2 | Ricky Carmichael | 8 | 73.69% |
3 | Ryan Dungey | 9 | 72.73% |
4 | Jeremy McGrath | 13 | 68.79% |
5 | Cooper Webb | 8 | 67.10% |
6 | Eli Tomac | 12 | 66.80% |
7 | Chase Sexton | 4 | 64.78% |
8 | Jean-Michel Bayle | 4 | 64.55% |
9 | Jeff Stanton | 8 | 62.50% |
10 | Mike Kiedrowski | 7 | 61.93% |
11 | Jason Anderson | 10 | 59.52% |
12 | Chad Reed | 19 | 56.63% |
13 | Mark Barnett | 8 | 53.61% |
14 | Johnny O’Mara | 10 | 53.25% |
15 | Ron Lechien | 8 | 52.76% |
16 | Damon Bradshaw | 7 | 52.62% |
17 | Jim Pomeroy | 3 | 52.56% |
18 | Bob Hannah | 10 | 52.05% |
19 | Mike LaRocco | 18 | 52.00% |
20 | Marvin Musquin | 8 | 51.83% |
- Not too surprising to see Villopoto, Carmichael and Dungey at the top here. I am surprised by the (small) gap to McGrath though, but McGrath is skewed by his comeback seasons of 2005 and 2006.
- For Jeremy McGrath, his 10 full time 450 seasons would put him at an average of 84.45% !!
- Pretty impressive to see riders with 10+ seasons in the top 20. Especially given injuries.
- 14 of these 20 riders are Champions.
- 4 active riders are in the Top 20.
450SX Active Riders Average Points Per Season 1974-2024 (Min. 3 Seasons Raced)

4 | Jason Anderson | 10 | 59.52% |
5 | Justin Barcia | 12 | 47.09% |
6 | Ken Roczen | 14 | 43.95% |
7 | Aaron Plessinger | 6 | 42.72% |
8 | Malcolm Stewart | 9 | 33.46% |
9 | Dylan Ferrandis | 4 | 33.20% |
10 | Dean Wilson | 11 | 32.20% |
11 | Justin Hill | 5 | 30.72% |
12 | Joey Savatgy | 4 | 29.81% |
13 | Josh Hill | 11 | 23.16% |
14 | Christian Craig | 4 | 19.54% |
15 | Kyle Chisholm | 16 | 18.46% |
16 | Vince Friese | 12 | 17.66% |
17 | Benny Bloss | 7 | 17.42% |
18 | Shane McElrath | 6 | 16.05% |
19 | Ryan Breece | 4 | 10.93% |
20 | Justin Starling | 6 | 9.39% |
- Ken Roczen is skewed lower due to racing 4 rounds in the 450 class in 2011-2013. As a full time 450 rider, his average is 54.58%.
- 9 of these riders have won a race (counting 2025 even though this list only goes through 2024).
- 8 of those 9 are the Top 8 here, the 9th is Josh Hill
- 13 of these riders are 250SX Champions
I will now show the same lists but only for seasons where the rider completed 100% of the races during the season.
Through 1974-2024, there are 37 total riders that have completed 100% of the races in 3+ seasons.
450SX All-Time Average Points Per Season 1974-2024 in Seasons with 100% of Races Completed (Min. 3 Seasons Raced)

2 | Rick Johnson | 3 | 84.84% |
3 | Jeremy McGrath | 9 | 84.35% |
4 | Cooper Webb | 4 | 83.45% |
5 | Ryan Dungey | 7 | 83.16% |
6 | James Stewart | 5 | 79.63% |
7 | Jeff Stanton | 3 | 78.80% |
8 | Eli Tomac | 6 | 77.60% |
9 | Chad Reed | 11 | 74.69% |
10 | Ken Roczen | 6 | 74.35% |
11 | Jason Anderson | 5 | 73.03% |
12 | Mark Barnett | 3 | 72.39% |
13 | Marvin Musquin | 3 | 72.38% |
14 | Ron Lechien | 3 | 71.59% |
15 | Damon Bradshaw | 3 | 71.10% |
16 | Mike Kiedrowski | 5 | 68.25% |
17 | Jeff Ward | 5 | 68.13% |
18 | Johnny O’Mara | 3 | 67.99% |
19 | Kevin Windham | 9 | 67.56% |
20 | Jeff Emig | 4 | 67.27% |
- First thing that jumps out to me here is Chad Reed having 11 seasons where he raced all the races
- Rick Johnson and James Stewart were not on the other list but now show up pretty high here.
- Roczen’s average also jumps up over 30% here.
- Surprised to see Cooper Webb this high and close to Carmichael, McGrath, etc. I figured his first stint on Yamaha in the 450 class would skew him a bit lower.
450SX Active Riders Average Points Per Season 1974-2024 in Seasons with 100% of Races Completed (Min. 3 Seasons Raced)
Rank | Rider | Seasons w/ 100% of Races | Points % Average |
1 | Cooper Webb | 4 | 83.45% |
2 | Eli Tomac | 6 | 77.60% |

4 | Jason Anderson | 5 | 73.03% |
5 | Justin Barcia | 5 | 62.75% |
6 | Malcolm Stewart | 4 | 57.81% |
7 | Dean Wilson | 3 | 47.62% |
- Only 7 active riders with 3+ 100% seasons
Looking at both the 450 class when adjusting for the 100% of races category, I noticed the top scores are right around 85% which makes sense as this is often the threshold for almost guaranteeing a championship. You can read about that here: 85% Benchmark
Onto the 250 Class:
250SX All-Time Average Points Per Season 1985-2024 (Min. 3 Seasons Raced)

12 | Kevin Windham | 3 | 72.78% |
13 | Adam Cianciarulo | 4 | 72.72% |
14 | Ken Roczen | 3 | 71.11% |
15 | Aaron Plessinger | 4 | 70.75% |
16 | Davi Millsaps | 3 | 70.29% |
17 | Trey Canard | 3 | 70.00% |
18 | Ivan Tedesco | 5 | 68.59% |
19 | Keith Turpin | 3 | 67.56% |
20 | Joey Savatgy | 5 | 67.53% |
- Justin Barcia’s 250SX career was extremely impressive, even higher than James Stewart on this!
- Only Adam Cianciarulo and Joey Savatgy are non champions from this Top 20.
250SX Active Rider Average Points Per Season 1985-2024 (Min. 3 Seasons Raced)

3 | Levi Kitchen | 3 | 51.43% |
4 | Jalek Swoll | 4 | 50.54% |
5 | RJ Hampshire | 10 | 47.93% |
6 | Pierce Brown | 5 | 47.03% |

10 | Tallon Vohland | 6 | 42.48% |
11 | Michael Mosiman | 7 | 41.85% |
12 | Max Anstie | 5 | 41.40% |
13 | Mitchell Oldenburg | 12 | 40.63% |
14 | Jeremy Martin | 11 | 40.31% |
15 | Austin Forkner | 8 | 40.10% |
16 | Enzo Lopes | 5 | 40.09% |
17 | Billy Laninovich | 10 | 32.13% |
18 | Coty Schock | 5 | 29.05% |
19 | Joshua Varize | 4 | 28.37% |
20 | Derek Drake | 4 | 28.21% |
- You can see the big drop off from all-time top 250 riders vs the current active ones. (Remember Haiden Deegan is only in his 3rd season now in 2025, so he is not here)
- Wasn’t sure if Oldenburg and J-Mart were still active or not so I included them. But Billy Laninovich is definitely still active!
Didn’t do the 100% of races for the 250 class as there are so few races in the 250 class.
