Jeremy Martin won his final career moto at his home track at Spring Creek this Saturday. This was J-Mart’s first moto win in 4 years! It came as as huge shock as Martin’s moto finish average in his last 5 races before 2025 Spring Creek was…24.75!
Jeremy Martin’s first career moto win in the 250MX class came way back in 2014, a year where he went on to be champion.
Martin’s first moto win took place at Glen Helen Moto 1 on 5/24/2014 and his last at Spring Creek Moto 2 on 7/12/2025…a gap of 4,067 days!
I wondered where this ranked all-time in the 250 Class and then how the 450 Class compared, so lets break it down!
Quick Note: I only have moto scores for both classes going back to 1980, so this article is only the ranks starting from 1980. I will note when a rider should have a longer gap dating back to the 1970s (eg. Bob Hannah).
(I will get the moto scores from the 1970s from the CycleNews archives later on this year as an offseason project.)
I will also note active riders who could hypothetically extend their winning gaps.
Onto the data!

Active riders in Italics
* Bob Hannah won motos in the 1970s, so his actual time gap is larger than displayed here.
Notes
- Kevin Windham leads the way here with a 12 year gap! Windham won a moto in his 3rd career start in the 450MX class in 1998 at High Point. Windham’s last moto win was at Steel City 2010. Before this moto win in Steel City, Windham hadn’t won a moto since 2007.
- Eli Tomac is second here and is probably the most likely rider from the top 20 here to extend his gap.
- Justin Barcia’s first moto win came at Southwick 2011 win he moved up to the 450MX Class as a factory Honda fill in. His latest win came at Spring Creek 2021 – which is GasGas’ only 450MX moto win in history.
- John Dowd’s first moto came at the one moto format Hangtown 1991 race, his last was at High Point.
- Ricky Carmichael won his first career moto in his first start, he won his final moto in his final start as well. Both 1-1 days for the GOAT.
- Larry Ward won 2 career motos in his 450MX career with his first at Kenworthy’s in 1991 and his last at Broome-Tioga in 1998.
- Bob Hannah is the most notable rider here whose days gap number is actually way higher. Hannah won motos in the 1970s, but I don’t have the data for this yet. Bob Hannah is likely second here with his first moto wins coming in 1976.
- Tim Ferry has a six year gap between his 5 career moto wins.
- Josh Grant is 20th here, in his 4 career motos wins spanned 5 years.

Notes
- Larry Ward leads the way with a 13 year gap! His first 250MX moto win came in Southwick 1989 and his last in Washougal 2002.
- Jeremy Martin comes in second here with an 11 year gap. If not for J-Mart’s moto win at Spring Creek this past week, he would have been 6th on this list.
- Mike Brown, Ryan Hughes, Steve Lamson represent a big chunk of the 90s to early 2000s era here.
- Alex Martin’s final moto win came at Loretta Lynn’s in the 2020 covid shortened season. This was the only Moto 2 victory of his 5 total moto victories in the 250MX class.
- Ricky Carmichael dropped down to the 250MX class for the final round of 2001 to go for the all-time overall wins record in the class, he succeeded going 3-1 on the day. This added 2 years to Carmichael’s win gap here.
- Four riders are on both lists here: Larry Ward, Ricky Carmichael, Mike LaRocco, Jeff Ward
