I’m back again…and by popular demand for my 4th year of Just Short! It’s hard to believe and demonstrates how desperate Steve is for content.
What is Just Short? Besides a play-on-words to slip in my favorite rider’s name (Andrew Short) into every article I write, it is also a way to mention the riders who come as close as you can to qualifying for the main event, but only to find themselves coming up, you guessed it…”Just Short”. Don’t take these articles too serious, Supercross is supposed to be fun. Sometimes I’ll be writing about guys that I know nothing about; I’m sarcastic, I make things up if needed, and elaborate more than necessary. I try to incorporate social media or text into these articles to make up for my own Shortcommings as a writer. Like most of the riders, I’m starting A1 a little underprepared, this week won’t be my best performance of the season, but I’m on the gate. I’ll fight through the typing arm pump and finish this to build on it. Let’s take a look at who came up Just Short at A1.
#360 – Morgan Burger
I’ve just met Mr. Burger, but he’s making my mouth water. |
Did you know Burger is from Nampa, ID, right outside of Boise? Did you know he’s friends with a Boise state cheerleader? Well now you do, don’t ever say that you don’t learn interesting and informative facts in Just Short articles. With a name like Burger, I consulted some industry experts (whom wish to remain anonymous) about one of the most important aspects of racing SX, custom butt patches. Lots of asspects to consider with Mr. Burger, here’s what the “experts” came up with.
“Burger’s Buns”
“Loaded Burger”
“Hot Burger”
“In N Out”
“5 Dollar”
“Picture of two buns”
I should trademark those ideas before someone makes a fortune off of them. Someone told me Burger hasn’t made a main event yet, which saved me the hassle of looking up that kind of pertinent information. I can tell you he won’t get this close to not making a main event again.
#27 – Nick Wey
Take a long hard look at Wey’s “look”. He puts a lot of time into it, so the least you can do is stare. |
What can be said about Wey that hasn’t already been said? He was a factory rider, then a privateer, then a factory rider again, and then a privateer again, then a team owner. He’s literally done it all two or three times. One of the nicest guys in the pits, easily marketable with a solid fan base, Wey is building a brand with his Moto Mafia Crew. I haven’t read his business plan, so I’m not sure where he wants to go with it or what the mark-up on a leather jacket is, but there’s definitely potential there. I see people reppin’ the MMC apparel at all the races, so the gorilla marketing campaign is working. You can’t keep a good man down, and Wey will undoubtedly be in the main event in Phoenix.
Instagram Emulation
This is where we match up some of the Just Short rider’s Instagram posts; thank God for social networking. This match up between Burger and Wey is the difference between a rookie getting his feet wet, and a veteran that has been on the circuit for 20yrs. The disparity in the number of likes and comments shows the difference between where these two riders are at in their careers.
Neither rider has posted anything on IG since A1. Prior to the race they both seemed ready based on these posts. I like that Burger listed out all of his sponsors. Wey had a nice play on words here with the “looking ahead” when he’s literally looking ahead in the picture. I wonder if he had someone take the picture specifically with this post in mind. |
This Wey picture can’t be beat; jean jackets and posing with trophies. Wey already had the blue steel look down at a young age. Burger demonstrates how to take an awkward prom photo and make your date feel uncomfortable. |
I actually had a buddy wear this same bee costume to a Halloween party, which says a lot about both of them. I can’t tell if the Wey picture is photo-shopped, or if it is one of those cut outs you stick your head through, either way it’s creepy. |
I’m not one to glorify crashes or blood, but both these posts caught my attention. Both pictures make me cringe. How the hell did Burger make his skin split like that? Chipped teeth in moto is far too common, it’s surprising you don’t see more dentists sponsor the sport. |
Wey may be a veteran, but Burger has him beat with the riding in the hills posts. Don’t get me wrong, the turn track looks cool, but you can’t beat a sweet whip picture. |
Airport life. These guys have got nothing on JT$’s airplane window shot posts. |
Burger has a very unique picture here. Not sure I approve of the filter he used, but nonetheless, a very cool photo. I don’t know why I chose this picture of Wey… it just seemed artsy. |
