Here’s a “Short” interview with Ryan Zimmer……enjoy, and thanks to Terry for the pictures.
Moser: You raced Supercross with the Blue Buffalo – Slater Skins team but I heard a rumor you were doing something different for outdoors. All of my “sources” are questionable at best so fill us in on what’s really going on and what your program is for outdoors.
Zimmer: We are still sorting out final plans for outdoors but I do plan on racing this summer. It will most likely be a limited schedule.
M: The Slater Skins definitely draw a lot of attention, it’s a unique look. What’s it like to ride with them, are they slippery, more aerodynamic, quieter? The single molded handlebar/front number plate seems like it could take some getting used to looking at instead of conventional handlebars.
Z: Really no different and nothing a little grip tape can’t fix. The handlebars do look different but it does not affect riding the bike.
M: Do you have a dog and if so how does he/she like the Blue Buffalo food? Matthes spends a fortune on dog food he could single handily justify a sponsor like Blue Buffalo being involved in the sport.
Z: Yes, I have a dog. Blue Buffalo is a great product and the sport is fortunate to have them involved. Matthes should spend his fortune on Blue Buffalo to make sure they stay involved.
M: If the Blue Buffalo mascot and the JGR wiener mascot got into a fight who do you think would win?
Z: Without a doubt The Blue Buffalo Wolf
M: How would you compare this years Supercross season to your past seasons?
Z: Obviously not my best season this year. I feel like I left some opportunities on the track this year and really feel like I should have consistently been in the main event. It’s all on me.
M: Headed into the outdoor season how do you think your bike will stack up against the Geico, PC’s and Star Yamaha bikes? It’s not impossible but it’s no easy task to make your bike competitive in the 250 class.
Z: If I do my job and ride to my potential, the bike will be fine. My Yamaha’s are set to get the job done, it’s on me to make it all happen.
M: I’ve got a serious question. Why is your Instagram private? I come across this all the time when I’m trying to do “research” on a rider. As a professional athlete isn’t it easier to promote your sponsors if people can access your social media? Am I just to old and out of touch and I don’t understand? How often do you deny someone from actually following you and how many times a day to you have to accept new followers? I really need to get to the bottom of this, it’s a borderline epidemic.
Z: I am really not much of technical guy and not totally into all the social media as much as others. I am a pretty private guy and in today’s world you have to be careful about what you say and how you say it. You never know who has access to your social media and how they will interpret it so you just have to be careful. From my perspective, I use my social media to communicate with friends and family so that is kind of my approach with it. I think there are others who feel the same way so this could be why you think it’s an epidemic. There are obviously others who need it or use social media as an overall marketing strategy.
M: Thanks for your time and good luck this outdoor season.
Z: Thanks Moser I appreciate you taking the time and doing this interview with me!
