2019 AMA Supercross Contingency
What do these privateer riders actually make from contingency? I did this contingency article last year and it was a big hit so Matthes was adamant about getting the 2019 version up for you guys to geek out over. Contingency may not be important to the guys that are inside the top ten every Saturday night, but you can guarantee that guys like Ben Lamay, Alex Ray, and Carlen Gardner are keeping tabs on what they are making on contingency every Saturday night. Some riders have separate special contingency deals with OEM’s as well.
Below is a breakdown of the 2019 contingency payouts from each manufacturer and for fun we go over what a couple actual privateers have made in contingency so far for 2019.

Alex Ray: Alex is a main event guy and is not exactly killing it with a huge salary from the HEP Suzuki team so contingency is important to A-Ray. Here is what A-Ray has made from Suzuki contingency as well as a “hypothetical” amount if he was on another color.
Suzuki: (Actual) $1,750
Honda: (Hypothetical): $3,400
Kawasaki: (Hypothetical) $5,600
Yamaha: (Hypothetical) $2,750
KTM: (Hypothetical) $2,800
Husqvarna: (Hypothetical) $2,800
Ben Lamay: Ben is another journeyman privateer that has stepped his game up in 2019. He has made eight out of the nine main events and his Honda is one of the best looking privateer bikes in paddock (I had to throw that in there). Ben is paying his own way to the races, his woman is the EKS Brand goggle gal for the riders, and he needs this contingency to help subsidize his costs. Below is what the “Alaskan Assassin” has made and what he would make if he was on another color machine.
Honda:(Actual) $4,350
Suzuki: (Hypothetical): $2,550
Kawasaki: (Hypothetical) $7,400
Yamaha: (Hypothetical) $2,400
KTM: (Hypothetical) $3,400
Husqvarna: (Hypothetical) $3,200
