It was the final round of the Rockstar Energy Canadian MX Tour series last weekend as the series made it’s way to Walton Raceway for the traditional finish to the Canadian outdoors…
It rained pretty hard early Saturday morning so practice started a little soggy. The weather improved and by the motos, the track was pretty good.
Josh Hansen was hanging out all week at Walton and wanted to let Colton and Phil know who he was cheering for.
It wouldn’t be Canadian Moto without a strange incident and this time it was Matt Goerke at the receiving end of it. After locking bars with Colton Facciotti down the start straight, he ended up colliding with Tony Alessi, who was standing next to the first turn and knocking them both out. Goerke would end up breaking his collarbone and capping off what has been a less than stellar outdoor series.
Jess Pettis grabs the holeshot to start things off in the 250 class.
Another rider who had a bad day was Luke Renzland, who was caught up in a first turn crash that ended his weekend.
Bermuda’s Jyire Mitchell wrapped up his outdoor season with 6th place.
Jayce Pennington was another rider caught up in the first turn crash so his day didn’t go too well. 36-33
Marshal Weltin finished Walton on the podium with 3rd overall, and 4th overall for the season.
Josh Osby was back in action for the final round after missing a few races. He grabbed 6th in Moto one but I’m not sure what happened in Moto two as he finished in 36th.
Tyler Medaglia had his best race of the season at the final round as he rode to a pair of 2nd place finishes to finish second overall. He also managed to avoid wearing a shirt all night at the after party.
Jess Pettis still had a mathematical chance of defending his 250 title going into the final round but a 3-DNF meant he will be changing back to his number 15 for 2020.
Dylan Wright had a solid lead coming into the final round and just had to keep it safe but he still went out and dominated both motos to take his first ever National championship.
He’s showed promise for years but 2019 was the season that Dylan Wright finally put it together.
Richard Taylor, the son of EKS-Brand goggle owner, Rich Taylor, came to Walton to make his pro debut, in the 450 class. He ran in the top 10 and ended up finishing 11th overall, with 11-14 Moto scores.
Josh Cartwright was inside the top 10, finishing 7th overall.
Ryan Dowd finished his first full year racing in Canada in the top 10, grabbing 9th overall and 7th in the series.
Snowcross racer, Kody Kamm, came to Walton to try his hand at Canadian Moto. 14-12 for 12th overall.
Cade Clason may be free but he still has some Canadian Nationals to finish. 9-9 for 8th.
Chase Marquier finished up his fill in ride on the Manluk Racing team with 6th overall and a top 5 in Moto two.
Cole Thompson had been struggling with a back injury lately but was feeling better at Walton and ran away to take the moto win in moto one. He finished 3rd in moto two, for second overall.
Mike Alessi still had a chance to win the title and grabbed the early lead but dropped back to 4th in both motos.
GDR Honda fans were out in force at Walton.
Phil Nicoletti and Colton Facciotti had a good battle in Moto two, with Phil making the pass to take the Moto and overall win.
It’s already been said, but only in Canada could a rider who threatened to kill someone be given a sword and a baseball bat for winning the race.
When it was all said and done, Colton Facciotti had ridden to his sixth, and final Canadian Championship.
Celebrating with his family is what it’s all about for one of the all-time Canadian greats. 6 championships moves him ahead of the great JSR for second most out of any Canadian.
It was a great day for the GDR Honda team.
For one rider, this was all new. For the other, he knew the drill. Championship photos on the famous Natural Double.
Another year of ruts is in the books.
