Hey Pulp Nation, welcome to the second week of the Advanced Analytics column. I’m excited to bring you a breakdown of each race based on the numbers. But as Mark Twain has been quoted, “never let the truth get in the way of a good story”. Before I dive into story of the numbers, there’s a couple additions for this weeks column.
The big addition is Shakers & Studs, Faders & Duds. If you’re following me on Instagram or Twitter, you got a sneak peek earlier this week. It’s a really cool way to quickly see how a rider performed from the drop of the gate to the checkered flag. It’ll give you an idea if a rider has great race craft and can shake their way through the pack, if a rider is potentially struggling from less than stellar fitness and fades, if they’ve got the starts dialed but just can’t keep the pace of the elite few, or if it’s just not clicking on that day. Be sure to check out who takes the weekly awards for both classes below.
The other addition is smaller but very important. I’ve added Gate Pick to the Race Stats section. Anyone that’s lined up behind the gate knows that getting an early pick is a big advantage. It’ll be interesting to track this throughout the season and see how it factors into overall results. So far, the premier class was won from the 7th and 4th gate pick and the small bore class from the 2nd pick both weeks.
Enjoy the numbers and analysis. If you’ve got questions, hit me up @3lapsdown or 3lapsdown@gmail.com.
