It’s been a few years since I had the chance to properly spend some time with the GET data system. Fast forward to 2023 and I had the chance to pick up a RX1PRO for my 2023 YZ450F, so I did and I wanted to give you a review of what I felt with the RX1, just slapped on the bike with no mapping (how it comes in the box). I wanted to try the GET RX1 PRO out of the box because I know how some of you are out there. YOU DON’T LIKE TO EXPERIMENT! Most of you just want to bolt it on and go without changing or playing with any buttons or apps. Even though the GET is fully customizable for your needs/track conditions, I tested the RX1 PRO as is.
Installing the GET ECU itself is not as simple as the 2022 model as you will have to remove seat, fuel tank as well as the battery because the ECU is mated to the battery box. The GET RX1 Pro comes with a mounting bracket as well as some straps to keep it in place. The RX1 Pro that we tried came with the ECU, map switch and a WiFi Com box (RX1 PRO comes with two pre-programmed maps). Although we didn’t use the WiFi Com box or the phone app to adjust TC/LC/Fuel/Ignition, there are those features within this system available. We will have another review on the features of the GET RX1 Pro in another article soon here on our site. Like we mentioned before we wanted to see if there was a plug and play difference in power compared to the stock Yamaha ECU/Power Tuner App.
Now you’re probably asking yourself why does he need more power for that Yamaha? That sucker has a ton of power stock already. Well, you’re right, I don’t need more power, in fact I want to smooth the roll on a little, so I can roll my corners better and come out quicker. What’s wrong with the Yamaha Power Tuner App? The answer? Nothing! I just know how good a bike can be with a wider parameter with an aftermarket ECU so why not try and see. After riding with the stock ECU for sometime and switching to the GET, initially I thought it might be too much bike for me, but I my initial thoughts were wrong. After riding with the RX1 PRO for a while I could tell two things immediately. It is very responsive to your throttle hand, yet the rear wheel feels more connected to the ground without that herky/jerky low RPM feel the stock ECU can give you. Yes, the YZ450F has more torque feel with the GET RX1 Pro installed, but it isn’t a light switch. Without even touching the LC GPA I was able to get more torque with a more connected rear wheel feel that I couldn’t get even when I went to several different maps on the stock ECU/Power Tuner App. The Yamaha now also has a newfound broader mid-range along with a top end/over-rev that pulls farther than stock. I have the ability to leave it in second gear down short straights instead of having to make the choice to shift to third before the next corner. Another bit of beauty I got with the RX1 Pro system is I have that old 2022 feel of a meatier third gear in corners which allowed me to keep the stock gearing and not have to run a 13/50 set up to pull third gear in corners. The over-rev was lengthened 250 RPM’s further and although that doesn’t sound like much it is noticeable when ringing the YZ450F’s neck out on long straights. I chose to run two different race fuels (VP T4 and ETS MX18) with the GET RX1 PRO even the ECU is not mapped for these fuels I wanted to see if it would benefit the consumer. The GET runs a little richer on the ETS MX18 and to me runs cleaner. With the T4 poured in, the RX1 is a little dirtier on low rpm situations and doesn’t produce as much puling power. I ended up sticking with the ETS MX18 and had zero issues with mapping.
The performance gains of the GET RX1 ECU are impressive for just slapping it on and not messing with mapping. For $849.99 it is cheaper than a titanium muffler system, but not as much bling as you may need in your life. I for one am about performance and not bling so if you’re looking for something that makes your Yamaha easier to ride, yet faster all at the same time, this GET RX1 ECU could be the ticket. I mean I purchased one for myself so that tells you something. I just didn’t get one for free to test, I actually purchased one for the race bike at home! Once I learn more about how the GET system works and take full advantage of all the adjustably it offers, I will make a video and put it up on my Youtube. Is it something you need right away when you get your YZ450F? No, but it could be your second or third option (after a muffler system and possibly a suspension re-valve) to consider when you upgrade your blue machine. There is nothing wrong with the Yamaha Power Tuner App, but if you want a little more adjustability, power, connectivity and wrap that up in an easier to manage Yamaha, this could be your next buy.
