As we count down the days to Anaheim 1, there are endless storylines to follow but I figured I could highlight several more!
Going into 2025, there are many records and milestones that can be achieved throughout the season.
As of now, there are plenty of unknowns for 2025 with where the riders stack up with each other. However, all the records and milestones I am going to highlight are fairly likely to occur, barring injury of course.
I am just focusing on the Premier Class for this article.
Seasons Competed In
Kyle Chisholm can move into a tie for 3rd place all-time in Premier Class seasons competed in. With just one main event start, 2025 will be the 17th 450SX season Chiz has a start in. This will tie him with Kevin Windham and Keith Johnson for 3rd all-time. Mike LaRocco is alone in 2nd at 18 seasons and Chad Reed holds the record with 19 seasons in the Premier Class.
Ken Roczen can move into a tie for 8th place all-time with Justin Brayton and Jason Thomas with 15 seasons competed in. Roczen is only going into his 12th full time 450SX season in 2025. However, Roczen did one 450SX race each year in 2011, 2012 and 2013 as a 250SX rider, thus he can hit 15 seasons with just one main event start this year.
Starts
A lot of movement can be made here if everyone stays healthy!
Eli Tomac currently sits at 7th all-time with 179 career 450SX starts, however, he can jump up to 4th all time with 14 starts this year. Leaping past Nick Wey, Larry Ward, and Justin Brayton:
- 4th Place – 192 Starts – Nick Wey
- 5th Place – 190 Starts – Larry Ward & Justin Brayton
- 7th Place – 179 Starts – Eli Tomac
Kyle Chisholm needs just 6 starts to leap past Jeremy McGrath for 8th all-time. Chiz sits on 168 starts, McGrath is at 173 starts.
Justin Barcia can also surpass Jeremy McGrath for 9th all-time (9th all-time assuming Chiz surpasses him), Barcia currently sits on 165 starts and needs just 9 starts to pass the King.
Jason Anderson needs 15 starts to move into 11th all-time. With 151 currently, El Hombre can pass Heath Voss (165) and Jeff Ward (162).
Points
Eli Tomac currently sits 4th all-time with 3,487 points. He needs just 14 to pass Jeremy McGrath (3,490) for 3rd all-time.
In fact, Tomac can get all the to 2nd all-time with 243 points this season to pass Mike LaRocco (3,729). In the seasons that Tomac has been healthy and raced the majority of the races, he has averaged 337 points, so this should happen if Tomac stays healthy.
Ken Roczen and Jason Anderson can both surpass Ryan Dungey in career points. Roczen needs 108 points to pass Dungey, Anderson needs 195 to pass Dungey.
How they currently sit:
- 6th all time – Ryan Dungey – 2,782 Points
- 7th all time – Ken Roczen – 2,675 Points
- 8th all time – Jason Anderson – 2,588 Points
Justin Barcia is currently 11th all-time with 2,448 points and can likely move into 9th all-time passing Larry Ward (2,546) and Jeff Ward (2,533).
Cooper Webb is not far behind at 14th all-time with 2,354 currently.
There is a good chance that if everyone stays healthy and rides to the ability we are used to, there could be 5 active riders in the Top 10 all-time points standings after this year:
Eli Tomac, Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson, Justin Barcia and Cooper Webb.
Wins
Not a ton of expected movement in the Top 10 of the all-time ranks here.
However, Cooper Webb currently sits at 10th all-time and could move into 8th or 9th with a few wins:
Rank | Rider | Wins |
1 | Jeremy McGrath | 72 |
2 | Eli Tomac | 52 |
3 | James Stewart | 50 |
4 | Ricky Carmichael | 48 |
5 | Chad Reed | 44 |
6 | Ryan Villopoto | 41 |
7 | Ryan Dungey | 34 |
8 | Rick Johnson | 28 |
9 | Bob Hannah | 27 |
10 | Cooper Webb | 25 |
Ken Roczen is 11th all-time with 22 wins, the most ever by a non champion.
Podiums
Eli Tomac is currently tied with Ryan Dungey for 3rd all-time with 101 podiums. Tomac needs 11 podiums to pass Jeremy McGrath (111) for 2nd all-time.
Ken Roczen sits at 69 podiums, 9th all-time. He needs 7 podiums to surpass Kevin Windham and James Stewart who both have 75.
Cooper Webb sits on 63 career podiums, tied for 12th all-time with Ryan Villopoto. Webb needs just 4 to pass Jeff Ward (66) for 11th all-time.
Laps
Justin Barcia currently has completed 3,864 laps and needs to complete 136 laps to hit 4,000 on his career.
Laps Led
Eli Tomac currently has 981 career laps led, needing just 19 more to hit 1,000 on for his career.
From the records we have access to (laps data goes back to 2003), Tomac is the all-time leader.
Ken Roczen needs 15 more laps led to pass Ryan Villopoto for career laps led. Roczen has 716, Villopoto 735.
Jett Lawrence led 193 laps in his rookie year. That is the third most for a single season since 2003. If he matches that amount again or comes close, he would likely pass some of the following riders: Marvin Musquin (303), Jason Anderson (310), Chase Sexton (338), Cooper Webb (376).
Anderson, Sexton and Webb will in all likelihood lead laps this year, extending their lead over Jett, but I would predict he passes Marvin Musquin.
