Jett Lawrence won Hangtown just recently and went 1-1. Not only that, he led all the laps in both motos – 36 laps on the day!
I was curious how often this has happened in Pro Motocross history, as this is the 12th time Jett Lawrence has done this in just 29 career 450MX starts.
Unfortunately, laps data is only available back to 2004 for Outdoors. Not only that, some races are missing the data.
Missing rounds for 450 Class: 2006 Hangtown, 2006 Steel City, 2007 Budds Creek, 2007 Freestone
Missing rounds for 250 Class: Same rounds as above but also 2008 Hangtown
So keep that in mind as I break down both the 450 and 250 Class for this stat.
Onto the numbers!
450 Class
In the 450 Class since 2004, 48 times has a rider gone 1-1 and led every lap on the day.
Here is the breakdown:
| Rank | Rider | Count |
| 1 | Jett Lawrence | 12 |
| 2 | Ricky Carmichael | 11 |
| 3 | James Stewart | 9 |
| 4 | Ken Roczen | 5 |
| 5 | Ryan Villopoto | 2 |
| Ryan Dungey | 2 | |
| Eli Tomac | 2 | |
| 8 | Mike Alessi | 1 |
| Ivan Tedesco | 1 | |
| Trey Canard | 1 | |
| Zach Osborne | 1 | |
| Adam Cianciarulo | 1 |
- Jett Lawrence is the leader here with available data, however, this is missing a ton of Ricky Carmichael’s races. If I had to guess, I bet Ricky’s actual number for this is probably around 20-25. This is missing his championships from 2000-2003.
- James Stewart has 9 races where he achieved this, 8 of these came in his 2008 perfect season. The other one was 2012 Freestone.
- All of Ken Roczen’s instances of this are from his dominant 2016 season.
- Ryan Villopoto has just two instances, both from 2013: Unadilla and Utah National
- Surprised to see just two instances from Ryan Dungey and Eli Tomac (less surprised for Tomac), but given how many wins they have I would have expected a few more.
- For Dungey, despite his 2010 and 2012 season where he racked up a ton of 1-1s, he typically never holeshotted. If I remember correctly in 2010, Andrew Short seemed to holeshot every moto that summer and Dungey would track him down after a few laps.
- For Tomac, he has never been the best starter and is known for coming through the pack but again would have thought he would have had at least one or two more.
- Mike Alessi did this at Freestone in 2009. Bummer for Alessi as he looked like the title favorite that summer after this round but then got injured.
- Ivan Tedesco! 2009 Thunder Valley is Tedesco’s only 450MX overall win and he went 1-1 and led every lap!
- Trey Canard did this at the final round of 2014, the Utah National.
- Zach Osborne did this at Red Bud 1 in 2020.
- Adam Cianciarulo did this at Millville in 2020.
250 Class
In the 450 Class since 2004, just 11 times has a rider gone 1-1 and led every lap on the day. Pretty low compared to the 450 Class.
Here is the breakdown:
| Rank | Rider | Count |
| 1 | James Stewart | 3 |
| Jeremy Martin | 3 | |
| 3 | Haiden Deegan | 2 |
| 4 | Trey Canard | 1 |
| Dean Wilson | 1 | |
| Chance Hymas | 1 |
- Similar to Ricky Carmichael as mentioned above, this is missing a ton of race data for James Stewart from 2002 and 2003. My estimate is Stewart had probably around 10 instances of leading all the laps on a day.
- Meanwhile, Jeremy Martin has done this three times: 2014 Glen Helen, 2014 Hangtown, 2015 Thunder Valley.
- Haiden Deegan did this at 2025 High Point and 2025 Southwick.
- Trey Canard accomplished this at Washougal in 2010.
- Dean Wilson did this at Pala in the final round of 2010.
- How about Chance Hymas here! 2025 Thunder Valley, he led every lap!
The 250MX class in surprising for this, I didn’t think any rider would have a large amount of these (except for James Stewart if we had all the data). But I figured riders like Ryan Villopoto, Dylan Ferrandis, Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence would have at least one. Ryan Villopoto is the biggest surprise here, but we are missing a few rounds of data for him.
