Lets talk podiums. This article is all about podiums in Supercross – both the 450 and 250 class will be covered here. I’ll cover the all-time leaders, highest career podium %, most in a single season, most for a manufacturer, most consecutive, etc.
Lets dive in!
Manufacturer Stats
Most Podiums by Manufacturer – Premier Class
| Rank | Manufacturer | Podiums |
| 1 | Honda | 730 |
| 2 | Yamaha | 544 |
| 3 | Kawasaki | 441 |
| 4 | Suzuki | 287 |
| 5 | KTM | 232 |
| 6 | Husqvarna | 55 |
| 7 | GasGas | 17 |
| 8 | Can-am | 13 |
| 9 | Maico | 4 |
| 10 | Bultaco | 2 |
| CZ | 2 | |
| 11 | Penton | 1 |

Not very surprising to see that Honda is ahead here. The 1980s were very dominant for Honda. In 1986 in particular, Honda made up 2/3 or 66.67% of all the podiums that year – a record. The next closest is KTM in 2019, recording 58.82% of the podiums places that year.
All 17 GasGas podiums are from Justin Barcia.
Most Podiums by Manufacturer – 250 Class
| Rank | Manufacturer | Podiums |
| 1 | Kawasaki | 548 |
| 2 | Honda | 488 |
| 3 | Yamaha | 435 |
| 4 | Suzuki | 291 |
| 5 | KTM | 159 |
| 6 | Husqvarna | 53 |
| 7 | GasGas | 11 |
| 8 | Triumph | 3 |
| 9 | Cagiva | 1 |

No real surprise to see Kawasaki on top here with riders like Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto and the rest of the Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders that have succeeded over the years.
Rider Stats – Premier Class
Most Career Podiums – Premier Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums |
| 1 | Chad Reed | 132 |
| 2 | Jeremy McGrath | 111 |
| 3 | Eli Tomac | 102 |
| 4 | Ryan Dungey | 101 |
| 5 | Ricky Carmichael | 87 |
| 6 | Mike LaRocco | 81 |
| 7 | Ken Roczen | 76 |
| Cooper Webb | 76 | |
| 9 | Kevin Windham | 75 |
| James Stewart | 75 | |
| 11 | Jeff Ward | 66 |
| 12 | Ryan Villopoto | 63 |
| 13 | Jeff Stanton | 54 |
| 14 | Jason Anderson | 53 |
| 15 | Rick Johnson | 51 |
Lots of active riders in this list. Eli Tomac has a chance to move into second all-time in 2025. Roczen, Webb and Anderson have a chance to move up a few spaces as well. In some ways, this list is a longevity list. So how does this compare to the riders’ career podium percentage?
Most Career Podiums Percentage (Min 20 Starts) – Premier Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums | Starts | Podium Percentage |
| 1 | Ricky Carmichael | 87 | 115 | 75.65% |
| 2 | Ryan Dungey | 101 | 134 | 75.37% |
| 3 | Ryan Villopoto | 63 | 92 | 68.48% |
| 4 | Jean-Michel Bayle | 38 | 56 | 67.86% |
| 5 | Jeremy McGrath | 111 | 173 | 64.16% |
| 6 | James Stewart | 75 | 123 | 60.98% |
| 7 | Chase Sexton | 45 | 78 | 57.69% |
| 8 | Jett Lawrence | 12 | 21 | 57.14% |
| 9 | Eli Tomac | 102 | 184 | 55.43% |
| 10 | Cooper Webb | 76 | 140 | 54.29% |
| 11 | Rick Johnson | 51 | 100 | 51.00% |
| 12 | Mike Bell | 32 | 64 | 50.00% |
| 13 | Chad Reed | 132 | 265 | 49.81% |
| 14 | Marvin Musquin | 50 | 103 | 48.54% |
| 15 | Jeff Stanton | 54 | 113 | 47.79% |
Absolutely insane that Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Dungey have over a 75% podium percentage. How about JMB in 4th!?
I was surprised that McGrath was slightly lower here. If we remove his 2005/2006 comeback races, his average would be 68.94%, which would put him 3rd.
I was also surprised to see Chase Sexton as high as he is here. Despite a lot of crashes, Sexton still puts himself on the box more than Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb do on average.
Chad Reed’s career average drops to 49.81% as Reed had a record 265 starts! If we just took Reed’s prime years (in my opinion) of 2002-2012, his career average in that time frame is is 80.41% !!
How about consecutive podiums?
Most Consecutive Podiums – Premier Class
| Rank | Rider | Consecutive Podiums | Range |
| 1 | Ryan Dungey | 31 | 2015 Round 2 – 2016 Round 15 |
| 2 | Chad Reed | 25 | 2003 Round 8 – 2004 Round 16 |
| 3 | Ricky Carmichael | 22 | 2005 Round 1 – 2006 Round 6 |
| 4 | Chad Reed | 19 | 2006 Round 12 – 2007 Round 14 |
| 5 | Chad Reed | 17 | 2008 Round 15 – 2009 Round 14 |
| 6 | Ricky Carmichael | 16 | 2001 Round 1 – 2001 Round 16 |
| 7 | Jeremy McGrath | 15 | 1996 Round 1 – 1996 Round 15 |
| 8 | Ricky Carmichael | 14 | 2002 Round 4 – 2003 Round 1 |
| Ricky Carmichael | 14 | 2003 Round 3 – 2003 Round 16 | |
| 10 | Rick Johnson | 13 | 1987 Round 11 – 1988 Round 9 |
Dungey getting 31 consecutive podiums is wild, I have a hard time seeing this record being broken. Chad Reed having three of the top five streaks here is also wild. Plus Ricky with four of the top ten! McGrath’s 15 podium streak came in his nearly perfect 1996 season.
Ryan Dungey never went more the four starts without a podium in his 450SX career.
Most Podiums with a Manufacturer – Premier Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums | Manufacturer |
| 1 | Chad Reed | 90 | Yamaha |
| 2 | Ryan Dungey | 76 | KTM |
| 3 | Jeff Ward | 66 | Kawasaki |
| 4 | Ryan Villopoto | 63 | Kawasaki |
| 5 | Kevin Windham | 61 | Honda |
| 6 | Eli Tomac | 59 | Kawasaki |
| 7 | Jeff Stanton | 53 | Honda |
| 8 | Jeremy McGrath | 52 | Yamaha |
| Cooper Webb | 52 | KTM | |
| 10 | Jeremy McGrath | 50 | Honda |
| Marvin Musquin | 50 | KTM |
I would not have thought Kevin Windham had more Honda podiums than Eli Tomac had Kawasaki podiums. Cool to see Jeremy McGrath with both Yamaha and Honda in the Top 10 here. Suzuki doesn’t make the Top 10 here, the rider with the most Suzuki podiums? Ricky Carmichael with 37…in 39 starts with Suzuki LOL. Ken Roczen is close behind with 35 podiums.
Most Podiums in a Single Season – Premier Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums | Year | Podium % |
| 1 | Ricky Carmichael | 16 | 2001 | 100.00% |
| Chad Reed | 16 | 2004 | 100.00% | |
| Ricky Carmichael | 16 | 2005 | 100.00% | |
| Chad Reed | 16 | 2009 | 94.12% | |
| Ryan Dungey | 16 | 2015 | 94.12% | |
| Ryan Dungey | 16 | 2016 | 94.12% | |
| 7 | Jeremy McGrath | 15 | 1996 | 100.00% |
| Ricky Carmichael | 15 | 2003 | 93.75% | |
| James Stewart | 15 | 2007 | 93.75% | |
| Chad Reed | 15 | 2007 | 93.75% | |
| James Stewart | 15 | 2009 | 88.24% |
Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey all having two seasons with 16 podiums! How about Stew with 15 in both 2007 and 2009!
There is one other instance of a rider having a 100% podium (min 8 round season) rate for a season, Rick Johnson in 1986 went 12/12 for podiums.
Rider Stats – 250SX Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums |
| 1 | Nathan Ramsey | 33 |
| 2 | Stephane Roncada | 27 |
| Jordon Smith | 27 | |
| 4 | Shane McElrath | 26 |
| RJ Hampshire | 26 | |
| Martin Davalos | 26 | |
| 7 | Justin Barcia | 23 |
| Jeremy McGrath | 23 | |
| Jett Lawrence | 23 | |
| Cameron McAdoo | 23 | |
| Christian Craig | 23 | |
| Zach Osborne | 23 | |
| 13 | Hunter Lawrence | 22 |
| Adam Cianciarulo | 22 | |
| Tim Ferry | 22 |
A lot more close in range compared to the Premier Class. Nathan Ramsey leads the way here. Only Cameron McAdoo is an active 250SX rider, I believe Jordon Smith is racing the 450 Class in 2026. It makes sense, if you are consistently making podiums in this class you probably will move up to the Premier Class and hopefully have a good ride…or you were pointed out like Shane McElrath.
Most Career Podiums Percentage (Min 10 Starts) – Premier Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums | Starts | Podium Percentage |
| 1 | Brian Swink | 18 | 21 | 85.71% |
| Kevin Windham | 18 | 21 | 85.71% | |
| 3 | James Stewart | 21 | 25 | 84.00% |
| 4 | Mike Kiedrowski | 12 | 15 | 80.00% |
| Damon Bradshaw | 8 | 10 | 80.00% | |
| 6 | Justin Barcia | 23 | 29 | 79.31% |
| 7 | Travis Pastrana | 13 | 17 | 76.47% |
| 8 | Christophe Pourcel | 16 | 21 | 76.19% |
| 9 | Mickael Pichon | 18 | 24 | 75.00% |
| 10 | Jeremy McGrath | 23 | 31 | 74.19% |
| 11 | Ricky Carmichael | 13 | 18 | 72.22% |
| 12 | Jett Lawrence | 23 | 32 | 71.88% |
| 13 | Hunter Lawrence | 22 | 31 | 70.97% |
| 14 | Keith Turpin | 12 | 17 | 70.59% |
| 15 | Marvin Musquin | 21 | 30 | 70.00% |
| Eli Tomac | 21 | 30 | 70.00% |
I would have thought James Stewart would be far out in front of everyone here for percentage. How about Brian Swink and K-Dub? And how about Travis Pastrana!? Not surprised to see Barcia up here, Barcia had one of the better 250SX careers of anyone. The Lawrence brothers are right next to each other.
Most Podiums with a Manufacturer – 250SX Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums | Manufacturer |
| 1 | Justin Barcia | 23 | Honda |
| Jett Lawrence | 23 | Honda | |
| RJ Hampshire | 23 | Husqvarna | |
| 4 | Hunter Lawrence | 22 | Honda |
| Cameron McAdoo | 22 | Kawasaki | |
| Adam Cianciarulo | 22 | Kawasaki | |
| 7 | Eli Tomac | 21 | Honda |
| Colt Nichols | 21 | Yamaha | |
| James Stewart | 21 | Kawasaki | |
| Austin Forkner | 21 | Kawasaki | |
| Damon Huffman | 21 | Suzuki | |
| Marvin Musquin | 21 | KTM |
Once again we see a much smaller range among the Top 10 compared to the 450 class.
Most Podiums in a Single Season – 250SX Class
| Rank | Rider | Podiums | Year | Podium % |
| 1 | Doug Henry | 10 | 1993 | 100.00% |
| Ezra Lusk | 10 | 1994 | 100.00% | |
| 3 | Mike Kiedrowski | 9 | 1989 | 100.00% |
| Denny Stephenson | 9 | 1990 | 100.00% | |
| Brian Swink | 9 | 1992 | 100.00% | |
| Mickael Pichon | 9 | 1996 | 100.00% | |
| Justin Barcia | 9 | 2011 | 90.00% | |
| Wil Hahn | 9 | 2013 | 90.00% | |
| Colt Nichols | 9 | 2021 | 90.00% | |
| Christian Craig | 9 | 2022 | 90.00% | |
| Hunter Lawrence | 9 | 2022 | 90.00% | |
| Jett Lawrence | 9 | 2023 | 81.82% | |
| Hunter Lawrence | 9 | 2023 | 81.82% |
All but two of these 13 instances are the champions in their respective coasts. Only Mike Kiedrowski in 1989 and Hunter Lawrence in 2022 are non champions here. A good range of recent years and older 250SX class history represented here. This is in large part to the number of races per coast has increased over time. The early years of the 250SX class often had one coast with several more races than the other.
I didn’t do the consecutive races with a podium for the 250 Class as this gets very complicated with coasts changing week to week, certain years have the shootouts as non points championship races.
