I cannot for the life of me come up with a theory that logically results in the Martin brothers each having a bike seize in sequential motos. Not only that but the three other team rider’s machines going the distance without issue.
I am absolutely NOT on of those conspiracy theorists who latches on to any shred of evidence as a proven fact of “strangeness in our midst”. I don’t belong to the Two Stroke Taliban, I don’t think the government streaks the skies with chemicals to keep us docile and cooperative nor do I believe that Sept 11 was orchestrated by them.
As grounded in reality as I like to live, there really are aspects of these Martin Bro DNF’s that make me not only tilt my head; but I scratch it and have a puzzled look of bewilderment on it as well. One member of the team (Alex) who went against the team directive to train as a cohesive group at South of the Border where team trainer Gareth Swanepoel would be working with them. The two members of the team who will be staying in the 250 class next year but not with the Star Racing Yamaha team… YES, I KNOW IT SOUNDS RIDICULOUS!!!
But you know what is even more ridiculous in my eyes?! The fact that this failure happened to just 2 out of 5 team bikes and they just happened to be the bikes of the two guys essentially defying team wishes. Further, whether these failures turned out to be due to loss of water or improper computer mapping, how does a team on the level of the Star Racing Yamaha not identify the source and assure it’s not going to happen again in moto 2? I mean it was the same issue! These bikes are connected to computers as soon as they get on the stand after a washing and they clearly saw that the water was out of Alex’s bike, so how do they not identify the mapping issue or source of Alex’s water loss as the first priority with the sole purpose of making sure it is an isolated, one-time failure?
The one thing that makes this whole conspiracy just as flakey as every other conspiracy is, what does Star have to gain from it? To consider precognition of intended failure is criminally ignorant. I cant for the life of me believe any part of this back to back bro to bro failure was conceived and carried out, so that leaves it as simply an unbelievable blunder due to oversight and inadequate attention paid to the indicators left by Alex’s smoke bike from moto 1.
In the end, I feel the main thing which has forced me to take the argument of conspiracy theorists and really consider it, is my anger at the way Alex Martin’s dream story is unfolding through no fault of his own. I have no problem admitting when I’m pulling for a guy and Alex’s story of rise and conquer, nearly overnight, is nothing short of a “Rudy”-esque tale of underdog triumph. We never have enough of those.
