I don’t get where these fans get off saying this series is a bore… Just because Ryan Dungey is running away with the holeshots and points lead 6 rounds in, doesn’t mean the series is lacking in excitement.
If your criteria for a compelling series is battles for the lead every race, well you must have gotten sick of every Supercross series since the beginning of time. When have we ever had consistent battles for the lead over the course of a series? For shit’s sakes, we’ve got 3 different winners through the first 6 races!!
Oh, you say passing is lacking? That’s weird because the perennial “nearly—incapable-of-passing” guy, yes the Ryan Dungey of yesteryear, worked his way up from the ground and 7th place at A1. He charged past guys at Glendale from 8th as well. We of course know this is an all new Ryan Dungey but come on, there are passes to be made and for one of the first times I can remember in recent years, there are passing options on the tracks. If you want better racing, I gotta be honest, for the first time in a long time, the tracks are not to blame.

I don’t think it comes down to effort either. Nope, I think if you have anything to thumb your nose at in regards to passing, it falls on the shoulders of the racers themselves. How can I say that? Because there is one guy out there who is making moves at every opportunity and creating opportunities where others don’t see one.
Jason Anderson has been an absolute enigma thus far into the series. The one-time thought to be failed Horizon Award winner has cast a new light on his reputation and legacy starting two years ago with his 250 Regional SX title and stuck to that script as he stepped into the prime time class with the legends of the sport. 2015 saw flashes of promise but the expected inconsistency. This year though, as we often see from riders who join the Baker’s Factory, Jason has grown from his fluttering successes of 2015 and absolutely battled his way for ward from dismal starts to finish on the podium at every single round thus far—and that includes being docked at round 2 (not THAT kind of docking).
El Hombre has decided in his mind that he is going to race like every round is the final round and every pass is for the title. He is not looking back and doesn’t give a rats ass who it is. He respects guys and isn’t dirty but you better cram it up your cram hole if you think he is considering at all what you expect him to do or where you think he may try to put you in his rearview mirror.
The TV crew should really consider a new concept, “The Hombre’ Cam”. Take once camera and dedicate it to following Jason around for the duration of the race and sell it via online PPV. I assure you I’d pay for that access. It sounds like there’s a large group of others who would too.
“I can’t believe you dirtied me again, Jason” “I can’t believe you left the door open again, Cole.” |
Jason really has found the borderline of where a racer wants to be considered by his competition. Cole Seely has certainly grown tired of his dealings with the Hombre’ and it seems like only a matter of rounds before he is looked at much in the same light as Justin Barcia by his opponents. Jason has something more going for him though, likability off the track. Even Cole Seely who lost that 250 title to Anderson and his physical passes doesn’t have harsh words to say about Mr.New Mexico. His passes aren’t dirty but they sure are exciting. Jason has many moments during the races where he looks like many riders do when they have a rabid case of arm pump but that’s just Jason’s aggro-style and as long as he isn’t punting dudes in the process, I say the more the merrier.
So all of you shrubs pissing and moaning about the racing being boring, just get your buddies over to the house, have em bring a couple six packs and make up the Jason Anderson DGAF Game. Evertytime El Hombre does something sketchy or makes a pass, take a drink, shut up and enjoy the live Supercross on tv.
