There’s a lot going on in the sport right now you know? Especially for the start of the “off season”.

The Nationals concluded last week with the Ironman MX. Mother Nature really tried to make it another mudder but it was only mildly messy in the grand scheme of things. There were a number of things unveiled recently, which, if you consider yourself an informed PulpMX fan, you already knew this stuff was coming to fruition.
Jeremy Martin has already been photographed and published online riding his number 6 Geico Honda in Alias gear. Can you say “bitter ending”? I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeremy was sitting on that CRF250 at 11:59 the Saturday night following the Ironman MX and when Sunday clicked in, he fired it up and began burning laps… Either that or he poured race gas on his Star practice bike and set it ablaze.
Also announced was that RCH is now going to be the full Factory Suzuki Yoshimura effort. Roczen’s move to Honda has yet to be announced but if you’re looking for a laugh at some real dumbassery. Have a look at Roczen’s Instagram pic of him relaxing by the pool and read the comments below it. So many people offering Ken advice on how to convey his thoughts. Honestly, the worst part of the internet is how easy it is for stupid people to have a voice. Just read people, you don’t need to be heard on every issue.
Theres also the first of two US MXGP’s this weekend in Charlotte North Carolina. The weather forecast is full of rain and a mudder is expected but don’t tell Weege that because he has had just about enough of all these predicted mudders with little to no follow through from Mom Nature. I don’t know what to think of this whole MXGP invading the US deal. It’s clearly a money grab that our riders don’t really care about… Unless your Cooper Webb that is. Cooper is the “racer-est” racer I can recall since RC or Bradshaw. He doesn’t give a shit about the stakes, he just wants to beat every guy contesting him. I am super interested to see what happens between he and Jeffrey Herlings. Regardless of who comes out on top in the battle, relax everybody; WE WILL NEVER REACH A CONSENSUS ON WHICH CONTINENT HAS THE SUPREME RACERS. Knock it off with that argument.
Really though the thing that has been running through my mind for the most part this week is related to Jake Weimer and his appearance on the PulpMX Show this week. Watching ELi Tomac this year, it has been so apparent that he is just not finding the comfort on his Kawi that he showed on his Honda a year ago. Yes this is the first of his deal and yes there are growing pains as well as an adjustment period but those factors notwithstanding, Eli looks incredibly frustrated. Jake Weimer talked respectfully though bluntly about the status quo within the Factory Kawasaki ecosystem while he was teamed up with Ryan Villopoto. We’ve heard whispers from other industry personnel relating to a sort of “team stubbornness” at Monster Kawi when it comes to varying too much from the setup they “perfected” with Ryan Villopoto. It’s crazy to me that this far into a full season, having seen how obviously frustrated and uncomfortable Eli has been, that they would still remain so adamant about a setup that worked incredibly well for the now retired Ryan Villopoto.
They say if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. In my mind, there’s just too much evidence pointing toward Jake’s claims being proven true. I really hope Kawi lessens their stance on heeding Eli’s desires to change the bike before he ends up quacking his way through the first few rounds of the 2017 Supercross series.
