Thanks to Dan Truman for compiling this list.
Here’s a refresher for how the number system works- If you win a national or supercross title, you get to pick a single digit career number OR a two-digit career number if you so choose. If you finish in the top ten in COMBINED points for the year, you can pick a career two digit number. You cannot pick a career three-digit number although Mike Alessi is allowed to keep his 800 because he got grandfathered in before that rule changed. The single digits that are available are 4,6 and 8 and rumors are that Baggett is going to choose #4 by virtue of winning the 2012 250 National Championship.
BRAND NEW THIS YEAR is that for the first time since the class was created in 1985, 250SX points count towards your national number which is incredibly dumb and short sighted and is subject to change for 2014. How you can reward a west coast 250 rider (who doesn’t race against the best in his class due to their being two classes) who travels locally for his series over a 450 rider that has to travel across the country and race an entire series is beyond me.
Riders who now have a career number are Eli Tomac, Justin Barcia, Marvin Musquin, Broc Tickle and Jake Weimer. So the list below can change depending on what permananent numbers the riders listed choose but these are close. Things can change if Wil Hahn takes #13 or not, most guys do not use it.
If you have a career number, you have to score 25 points to keep it. If you’re injured and can’t get 25 points, you get one year of injury exemption so Dean Wilson will keep his number while Josh Hill, who’s in his second year of injury, will lose his unless he gets some big points this weekend. Christophe Pourcel will also lose his #377 as he won’t score any points this year and with the change in the rules, he cannot get a permanent three-digit number if he decides to ever come back and race here.
Dan Truman (far left) is the man responsible for the list below and we thank him for that. |
