Photos by James Lissimore Captions by Matthes The Big O is, uhhhh, quaint. It’s got a lot of history but that’s what you say about places that have seen their best days. Maff is back! Luke Renzland came into Montreal hoping to win the thing and he did do that in one main. Red Bull KTM came into Montreal with both red plates but it doesn’t look like they’re going to keep both. Mookie is telling us about his off season speed gains while Phil and I are not quite sure yet. Phil told me that when he was teammates with Mookie he realized how rad he was and that he probably never would’ve talked to him ever. Brayton ran his Aussie team graphics in Montreal which was a bit weird but hey, whatever works. He had three teams he could’ve chose from! Hot Dog Vendor watches practice with Colton Facciotti who probably just crossed his arms because he saw a guy like Vendor doing it. Whether it’s in the USA, England or Canada, Dean Wilson is a fan favorite! Good dude, tries hard and his dad Andy is a special person. Oh hey, I didn’t see Kaven there but good to see him back at the races. There was so much FXR out there in Montreal. The Buggies were back in Montreal but there was only four of them, then three, then two and the racing wasn’t that great. They needed more track out there. Still, they slammed into a wall, they broke the gate and it was chaos. Phil’s starts were on point all night long. Must’ve been the booze cruise. I was very surprised at Cole Thompson’s (#1) lack of speed. He’s a very good SX rider and I thought he’d be in the mix more than he was. Matt Goerke’s Montreal went about as well as the rest of his year has gone. Not sure what’s happening here but he’s just been off for most of the year. CADE IS NO GATE FILLER! With limited time on the new Kawasaki, I thought Clason did pretty well and it sounds like he has a home with them for 2020. Brayton’s starts weren’t there but he was in the class of both Stewart and Wilson but he just couldn’t set his own pace. Skip Norfolk is a fan of Jayce Pennington and just wants to see him stay upright and get some momentum. I love retro gear, everyone knows that but for some reason I can’t get into this Fox stuff that Dylan Wright is wearing. I dunno, it’s just me I guess. Anyways, Wright was very fortunate to win the overall with 5-2 scores and a crash in each main. When it’s your year, it’s your year… Lots of confusion over who got third in MX2 but it ended up being this guy, Jorgenson, who put two steady races in. Who am I kidding, almost no one in MX2 put two steady races together. Ah man, I think Jess Pettis really jacked his knee up in a first turn crash in main #2 after dominating main #1. I really hope it doesn’t wreck his 2020 SX series. Andy Wilson telling Andrew about countertops and cabinets. THE JSR got honored along with some other French Canadian heroes in the intermission and that’s always cool. So did Carl Vaillancourt who was actually on his original 91 CR125 with a Mugen cylinder and head. Mookie looked almost as good as ever. I did think he was better last year but hey, it’s his first race off a bad injury. The Brayton/Wilson main event #2 battle was perhaps the best one of the night. Both guys were swapping spots like crazy and having a blast doing it. My name is Steve Matthes and I’d like to apologize to Phil Nicoletti for making fun of him on social, on my shows, in texts to him for going on his booze cruise. He rode great…maybe he needs to go on more? Carnage in 250SX main event #2. Pettis looks crushed and it doesn’t look good for his knee. Renzland won main #2 in a wire to wire ride that showed his SX potential. 250SX podium and Wright has clinched the 250 triple crown for the year. Dean O was the big winner at Montreal SX with 1-3-1 scores. 450SX podium. Poor Phil…he tied for third but of course he gets fourth. Lissimore
