What a day! We all knew this was coming as of yesterday but even still, the news that a Supercross schedule for the 2021 season being announced was a great thing to hear.
2020 has been more of a shit-show than nearing the end of 1999 when people actually believed the World was going to cease to exist. The fact that our 2020 SX series and even the MX Series completed, albeit with a few conciliatory factors, was very impressive in it’s own right. Feld has clearly learned a few things by being extremely diligent in their attempts to complete this years series and as we watch the Nation continue to process all this Covid-centric-mania, I am genuinely proud to see them err on the side of boldness.
Working with state governments who have a like-minded eye toward progress, personal accountability and responsibility, they have assembled an impressive forward-thinking schedule which as it stands is totally legitimate. Feld hopes to add rounds to the currently announced schedule and I’d expect them to do just that.
I really want to make sure I personally and we as fans of this sport take a moment to show our appreciation for what Feld has done for us in making this announcement. Sure the bottomline is business and dollars but such is life this great nation and that does nothing to diminish our reward as fans of racing and more importantly, our weekly distraction from all the bullshit we all, as a human race, have been forced to reckon with throughout this year. Feld could have sat back on their heels and waited for the government to hold their hand through the unknown until a resolution to the Pandemic presented itself (personally that line of thinking disgusts me) but they’ve been focused on the more difficult answer: finding a way to go racing in tough times.
The longer we deal with this socially distanced way of life , the more important it is for us to connect with those remnant-aspects of normalcy that distract us from the absurdity of it all.
Supercross racing is exactly that for us.
