Swizcore- The obvious off the cuff response to this question is yeah right but following the last four weeks of James inconsistency, Malcolm’s steady improvement and RV’s surging confidence, it leaves me answering with an insecure, no.
One thing I try to never let happen is let recent events change the historical perspective on things. History is real and James is undeniably persistent when it comes to titles and bouncing back from crashes or just not winning, James can and does. Each week he doesn’t win is just throwing coal on the fire. Some would argue his desire to not only win but decimate the field is what ultimately causes him to crash and forfeit said win. As I said though, history shows that James bounces back, I see him working harder than ever to avoid mistakes in Jacksonville. Another thing history has shown us is all James needs is one win to swing back the confidence from the field to himself.
I fully expect Malcolm to podium this SX season but I’m not ready to toss my perfect record in Point Counterpoint away this week.
Matthes- First of all, I school you in this little column each and every week. All the knowledge that you have is gained through me. Ok, now that we have that cleared up let’s get some facts out there and the main one I want to talk about is the fact that James has never lost five races in a row like he currently has. There is something wrong with him, maybe it’s the Daytona crash and no riding this past week. Maybe it’s the team changes and the some turmoil behind all that but in Indianapolis, he made some mistakes that he doesn’t usually make. He’s usually good for a big crash here and there but in Indy, in the opening laps, he was a mess. So many close calls, so many stops and starts- it’s just downright weird man.
He’s not the same but his brother is really impressive for sure. I don’t really follow amateur stuff all that much but even those that do say he is riding better than they ever thought. He’s gone a couple races now without crashing (heat and main in Indy- yes that’s where we’re at with Mookie) and with the unpredictability of the class, James’ problems-I’m saying that Mookie will make the podium before James. After all, I have Mookie fever.
Swizcore- You must still be reeling from your MacBook Pro purchase because you are whack if you think you’ve got the edge in the P/CP tally. And with regard to you believing Stewarts win drought will continue, well, I see that as just a way for you butter up the Kawi guys so maybe you’ll only have to ask once for lunch this Saturday.
I’m standing by my opening argument, history has shown James will be back. While his media relations are lacking in a major way, his resiliency isn’t and he has years of proof to point to which keeps his competitors noses to the grindstone.
Matthes- You’re right Jerky, history has shown that James will bounce back. I actually have him for a win this weekend in Jacksonville. That’s right, I think he’ll capture the win this weekend because you know why? He has to, it’s that simple. But here’s where I look super smart because I think that about ten minutes before James takes off for the main event, Mookie will have made his first podium in a race that is as close to his hometown as it gets. That’s right, Mookie will make the box, James will win and both boys will carry Big James off on their shoulders in a sign of triumphant solidarity.
I GOT MOOKIE FEVER!
