Show #346 – Dirt Bikes And Addiction (The Michael Allen Story)

In this episode Keefer brings close friend Michael Allen into the studio to tell his story about struggling with addiction to opioids. If you’re coming from a dirt bike background, injuries are commonplace and so is recovery, but in between those points, there could be a form of addiction brewing because of pain killers. Michael sits down with Keefer to go over how he ended up on the wrong side of recovering from an injury and he got over his addiction to pain meds.

  1. As somebody that Has dell with the highs and lows of racing. I was a sprint car racer with a dream that didn’t quite work out. Unlike motocross You can’t really just go drive a Sprint car. When you feel like it out in the desert, you have to be serious. You have to have sponsors. Or a pair with a lot of money. And you have to be at the races . When I reached the point where? I realized that it wasn’t in the cards for me. To be a professional race car driver Something I had dreamed about Since I was a little kid i’ve been around at my whole life. Put every ounce of energy and money I had into it. I entered a deep depression. Not knowing how to deal with it And navigate it I turned to Drugs and alcohol to numb the pain. After about five years of self medicating I got in a d ui Crash that should have killed me.. I struggled to get clean even after the accident and losing my License for a year almost lost my business. Doing a lot better now. Me and my daughter ride dirt bikes together on the weekends. Makes for a healthy. Hobby And it has replaced A lot of the things I. Missed about racing. All this to say That was one of the most interesting shows To me that you have done. Thank you to michael for being brave enough to share his experience. I am one of the lucky and last ones that was able to quit on my own. Some aren’t so lucky I hope somebody gets something out of this I’m sure somebody will
