The Sand Del Lee track is sandyish but has a hard base underneath so tire choice is a bit tricky. Tire choice seems split between a true sand tire and a more intermediate tread. Spark plug expert, Alan Brown When your mechanic has more Instagram followers than the entire field combined. @larryenticer It was a rough week for Red Bull KTM Thor Racing’s Tanner Ward(27), who lost his brother earlier in the week, but decided to race and snagged both holeshots in the 250 motos. Bit of a crazy race in moto one, as Dylan Wright(12) jumped the gate on the start and was given a 5 second stop-and-go penalty. After he rejoined the race, he charged back up to battle with race leader, Joey Crown on the last lap. Crown would hold off Wright to take his first moto win of the season. Josh Osby was a little off of his usual pace this weekend but still managed to finish the day in fourth place, with 6-5 moto scores. Consistency has been the name of the game for defending champ, Shawn Maffenbeier, so far this year. He found himself on the podium again with 3-3 for third overall. I don’t know who Jyile Mitchell is but it says he’s from Bermuda, so that’s pretty cool. Mitchell finished 9th overall. No starting issue for Wright in moto two as he grabbed another second place finish to take the overall win at his hometown track. It was another up and down day for Jess Pettis who’s been the fastest rider in the 250 class but so far has either won, or suffered a DNF. Moto one saw him again pushing his bike off the track but he came back to win moto two. The 450 class blasts off. With Mike Alessi getting hurt during the break between rounds four and five, Tyler Medaglia’s brother, Jeremy, was tasked with filling in. Coming off the couch to go 7-9 for 9th is decent and he’ll no doubt get faster over the coming weeks. John Dowd’s son, Ryan, cracked the top 10, finishing 9-6 for 7th. Living that shade life. Alessi may have been injured but still came out to be Maff’s umbrella boy. Kaven Benoit has been on fire and made it four moto wins in a row after holding off a hard charging Colton Facciotti in moto one. In moto two, he got held up behind a crash in the first turn and had to charge from way back to grab 8th, for 4th overall. Cade Clason went 8-7 for 8th overall. Cole Thompson battles with Matt Goerke in moto two. He finished 5th overall on the day. More consistency for Matt Goerke, who rode to 3-3 finishes for, you guessed it, 3rd. Tyler Medaglia was feeling the energy from the hometown crowd as he grabbed second overall on the day with 4-2 moto finishes. So far, Dillan Epstein has been unable to find the speed that saw him capture multiple moto wins last season. After logging the quickest qualifying time in the first practice session, he would end the day with 6-5 scores for 6th. Colton Facciotti was so sick on Saturday that he only turned a few laps in practice but once the gate dropped, he found the speed he needed to get back to the winners circle. 2-1 moto finishes for the overall win and he seems to have righted the ship that was starting to flounder a bit after rounds three and four. He’s back to owning the red plate outright again as the series moves to his team’s hometown race at Gopher Dunes next weekend. Lissimore
