Most Read Stories on Pulpmx.com for 2022
As always, a caveat here in that posts from years other than the current ones always infiltrate the top stories in a year, it’s timeless stuff like Tony Blazier’s The Bikes That Changed Motocross List or Worst Bikes Ever or the History of Honda CR’s or his Maxxis Classic Steel on a bike that everyone loves, the 1996 CR250.
These “History of” articles are always some of the most popular ones I write and they make it onto the top ten every year. A few years back, we started to focus on “new” content for this list, but they continue to be some of the most clicked articles on the site. I see the same thing on my YouTube channel where the “History of” videos are perennially my most-watched content as well. While I would love to think it is due to my enthralling prose, I believe their enduring popularity is mostly due to how they rank in Google searches.
Many Pulp fans come to PulpMX.com looking specifically for Keefer’s insight on a bike or one of my Classic Steels articles, but I think many others unfamiliar with our site find their way there because they just happen to search for something on Google and one of my articles pops up. Regardless of how they found us, I hope that they bookmark the site and come back to read all the other great stuff we have there. History articles and hugely popular bikes like the 1996 CR250R are just the sorts of things that tickle Google’s algorithm and I am glad we benefit with a few extra clicks every year.-Blazier
But we’re doing this JUST for 2022 and so away we go!

Not shocking that a two stroke article made the top spot, but I will admit this bike deserves it! I dislike two strokes compared to most folks, but this bike is UNREAL! You can ride it like a four stroke and you’re fine! WHAT?! I still have this bike and am riding it this week, so two stroke lovers UNITE! – Keefer

I’m a little surprised that a story I put out this late in the year ranked this high but people love lists and they love a sneak peek behind the curtain like this. Is it a perfect list? Hell, no but I tried the best I could and ran this by 6-8 close industry people as well to get their thoughts. I had some pushback for some people on this list and others thought that my excluding people that don’t only work on SX/MX, like Todd Jendro at Feld, wasn’t right because ultimately, Todd has a ton of power. I don’t know, like all lists it got the debate going and got it as the #2 story of the year on Pulpmx.com so I did something right!- Matthes

There isn’t a lot that needs to be done to this bike, but I love going through all of the models and thinking about the average consumer to find a comfortable baseline setting! Surprised this article is that far up on the list! – Keefer
I am shocked that this isn’t number two! The 23 YZ450F is the most anticipated bike of the New Year so having this article number 4 is weird. You like 250s more than 450s eh? The new Yamaha needs more attention than the older version but you will be able to read that article in 2023 right here on Pulp! – Keefer

WOW! Number 5?! STOP IT! This article needed to be on the podium! There are some good nuggets in this sucker!- Keefer

This was my 11th year writing for PulpMX and I want to once again thank Steve for allowing me to be a part of the PulpMX family and all of you out there for reading the articles I write. While it pains me that Keefer has somehow managed to smoke me once again, I am proud to be part of such a great team of fellow moto heads. As to this particular article, I was not surprised to see it on the list this year. In many people’s minds (including mine) the 1989 Hondas were the epitome of Big Red’s eighties awesomeness and still rank as some of the most beautiful machines they have ever produced. The ’89 CR250R may have been cursed with the worst stock forks in motocross history but damn was she fast and people still love to race and restore them to this day. I think both its enduring popularity as a classic racer and the seemingly unquenchable interest people have in classic Hondas easily account for its ranking on this list. – Blazier

Randy Richardson and I did some testing on these things early in their life and to me they are a better Michelin tire. – Keefer

Another example of 80s awesomeness, the 1986 YZ250 was similar to the 1989 CR250R in that both bikes were fast as stink and both bikes had forks that would rattle your fillings out of your teeth. I always loved the looks of these bikes as well, but they are not quite up there on the supermodel scale with the ’89 CRs. These bikes were pretty popular back in 1986, but I do not think there are as many of them running around now as the more ubiquitous Hondas. That makes them more of a curiosity to many who remember them but have not seen one in a long time. These eighties bike articles always seem to do well and when you have a bike that people remember fondly like these YZs it seems to translate into more clicks for the PulpMX empire.- Blazier

Top Steve Matthes Shows of 2022
A caveat here as well, the weekly race reviews that I do with JT and Weege (mostly them) outrank most of the one on one shows I do so those aren’t ranked here but people do really like listening to us debate the weekly SX or MX. With that said, here are the most listened to one on one shows of 2022.
#1- Jordan Burns Soundcheck
Count me as surprised this one topped the charts, we talked about our favorite moto video songs so doing this was a real flashback to the 90’s for sure. Jordan knows a lot about this stuff from being in his own band and friends with almost all the bands we played here. Fun show for sure, #1 in the year though? Who knew!
Lots of people curious about the new WSX series so having two of the main guys behind the series months before it kicked off got a lot of listens!
People like Chad Reed, he’s a good interview and I hadn’t had him on a show in a while. And he was coming back to racing in the WSX! All of that added up to a lot of interest from you guys.
Three in one here as I touch base with super agent Mirtl to talk about, what else, the WSX, repping the Lawrence brothers and more. The second part of this show was my reaction to hearing about a couple of ex-racers really struggling out there. Two great riders that “made it” are Broc Glover and Tallon Vohland. They discovered that life after racing is tough, learning new skills is tough and I wanted to find out what they did to be successful in “real life” after the applause stops.
A Privateer Island Pod, I talked to Breece right after A1 about where the hell he’s been, racing horses around barrels, his past rides w HEP and others. It was pretty funny and an original interview. You guys liked it as well.
I was stoked this one made the list, maybe my favorite podcast I did all year. Kenny was a low-key super influential guy in the hey days of the 80’s and 90’s. A designer of some iconic products working for AXO, Alpinestars and more, Kenny was a great storyteller as well.
Frank was a very good racer in the 80’s that was trapped in the days where only eight riders or whatever really made money. So he was privateering it for a while and getting some real good results before hanging it up to have a career in the industry.
Tons of newness with this one where Craig talks about his new ride on Husky and Brooks talks about his new job at HEP.
Why Marsh? I don’t know!
The owner of Stark Motorcycles talks about how it’s going, the development of the bike and more.
TOP PULPMX SHOWS OF 2022
#1- Show 500
I man, duh. Amazing show, amazing time. I can’t believe I got RC and MC to come to Vegas and hang out with us.
#2- Show #504
Having Webb in-studio was pretty cool for sure and he got better as we went on. Having Rarick and Phil here as well made it even better as they all busted each others balls for hours.
#3- Show #494
Jim Holley and Keefer together? Yes please!
